SHAP(D)ES – Dusépulchre [4/5/2024 – 30/6/2024]

Belgian painter and sculptor Francis Dusépulchre has exhibited both in Belgium and abroad, and has won awards and distinctions throughout his career. After expressing himself through figurative painting, in 1969 he embarked on the path of constructed abstraction and opted for a compromise between painting and sculpture, favouring innovative materials such as masonite, fibre optics and Plexiglas. The result is a series of painted reliefs in which the artist plays subtly with light and shadow, handling concave and convex surfaces with obvious efficiency and making fine, subtle incisions. His work, modern and powerful, is enriched by architectural integrations, notably for the Mariemont Museum, the Beaux-Arts metro station in Charleroi and the Nivelles Cultural Centre.

Het Maurice Verbaet Center is een expertisecentrum voor Belgische naoorlogse moderne kunst. Met duizenden topwerken van diverse Belgische kunstenaars, is deze zeldzame collectie de grootste in zijn genre, die vanzelfsprekend zeer representatief is voor een boeiend stuk Belgische kunstgeschiedenis. Bekende én veelal minder bekende kunstenaars die de herontdekking meer dan waard zijn worden met passie gepromoot. Met nadruk op de periode 1945-1975 vormen ‘Les Trentes Glorieuses’ de rode draad van de collectie, tevens aangevuld met recentere werken waar relevant voor het geheel.

In 2019 werd op een nieuwe en grootse locatie te Knokke de Maurice Verbaet Gallery geopend, waar werken te koop worden aangeboden.

De zorg voor de collectie en de duizenden werken die met heel veel liefde voor élk werk geleidelijk aan werd uitgebouwd, is in handen van een professioneel restauratieteam, verrijkt met de visie Maurice Verbaet aan de basis van dit unieke private kunstproject!
